HUNTER MOURNS MATT HALL

He wanted to shape the lives of young people – but he was cut down before his time.

That’s how teachers, friends and his parents remembered honors student Matthew Hall at memorial service at Hunter College last night.

“He was excited about learning, intellectually curious,” said college President Jennifer Raab. “He wanted to shape the lives of young people. His commitment to peace makes his loss all the more tragic.”

Alan Hausman, Hall’s philosophy professor, said the 18-year-old aspiring teacher was “one of the good ones . . . a wonderful student.”

Hall’s friend Miles Solay said, “I refuse to believe it was his time. He was just getting started. He cared so much about the community.”

His mom, Chantal, said, “Matthew was a man of love and peace. I think he learned to turn hatred into love. He had the roots of becoming a natural leader.”

Hall was shot in the back in Harlem last week as he fled a dispute between several members of a street gang and another group, cops said.

Cops say they’re convinced Hall was an innocent bystander and not the intended target.
