When it comes to comfy yet surprisingly stylish sandals, a pair of Chacos is hard to beat, especially when they’re on sale. The brand’s quintessential Z style usually retails for around $105, but a 33 percent discount at REI (in both men’s and women’s sizing) brings them down to $70 right now, just in time for peak summer.

We’ve previously crowned these waterproof shoes (which happen to be endorsed by the American Podiatric Medical Association for promoting foot health) our best overall summer hiking sandals, and over the years they’ve been recommended to us by camp counselors, outdoor-tour-group leaders, and National Geographic photographers. They’re highly versatile across all sorts of terrain: Steve Silberberg, head guide at backpacking adventure company Fitpacking, told us that he prefers Chacos over Tevas when hiking in the desert because there’s no Velcro to wear out from use. Even if you have no immediate plans to hit the trail, I think the Velcro-free crisscross design makes these sandals elegant enough for summer days in the city, too.

The Strategist is designed to surface useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Every product is independently selected by our team of editors, whom you can read about here. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
