- "Cauldrons — All Sizes — Copper, Brass, Pewter, Silver — Self-Stirring — Collapsible"
- — Sign outside Potage's Cauldron Shop[src]
Potage's Cauldron Shop was a shop on the North Side, Diagon Alley that sold all types of cauldrons, displaying them in a stack outside the shop, under a sign displaying what cauldrons they had available.[2] It was the first shop encountered when entering Diagon Alley from the Leaky Cauldron. It was owned and run by Madam Potage.
A branch of the shop was also located in Knockturn Alley.
History[]
- "Due to some faulty cauldrons causing a stir, we are still closed, sorry."
- — Notice of closure during the Christmas holidays in 1992 [src]
In 1991 Harry Potter and Rubeus Hagrid came to Potage's to buy a Pewter Cauldron for Harry, since every first year student had to be equipped with one.[2]
During the 1992 Christmas holidays, Potage's was temporarily closed, due "to some faulty cauldrons causing a stir".[3]

Behind the scenes[]
- This was the first wizarding location, aside from the Leaky Cauldron, to be introduced in the series. The shop's name is not revealed in the books. It is only given in a tour of Diagon Alley included on the DVD of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and in the Game Boy Color version of
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, and later confirmed in Pottermore.
- In the PS1 versions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (video game) and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (video game), the storefront simply bears the name "Cauldrons".
- Before the Diagon Alley expansion at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, one could find Potage's Cauldron Shop (actually just a fake storefront) in Hogsmeade. Following the expansion, it was replaced by Ceridwen's Cauldrons.
Etymology[]
Potage, pronounced (pot-AZH), from the Latin-French root pot meaning drink, is a "soup", particularly a rich and creamy one. It has a more English cognate pottage (POT-idge), which usually refers to a vegetable soup, with or without meat.
