Lillian Moran (née Jacobsen; 18 March 1911 – 2 April 2024) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was oldest known person living in the U.S. state of Minnesota, as well as the oldest known person to survive COVID-19 twice.

Biography[]

Lillian Moran was born in Maddock, North Dakota, USA on 18 March 1911 to Jacob and Emma Julia (née Nottestad) Jacobsen. She married John Moran in 1940 and they had one son in September 1942, Gary Wayne, who died in December 2019. Her husband died in November 1963.

Moran's family has a history of longevity. Her mother died at the age of 99, a few months short of her 100th birthday, and her grandmother lived to the age of 103.

Moran grew up on a farm, milking cows and working in the fields. Her father was a farmer and blacksmith who owned a shop in Flora, North Dakota. Moran recalls working on threshing crews, and helping out on a cook car. Additionally, Moran worked part-time in a general store.

At the time of her 108th birthday in 2019, Moran used a wheelchair but took no prescribed medications. In March 2021, Moran celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Following the death of 114-year-old Erna Zahn on 9 August 2022, Moran became the oldest known person living in the U.S. state of Minnesota.

Moran celebrated her 112th birthday in May 2023 because she tested positive for COVID-19 in March. This was the second time Moran had survived COVID-19.

Moran died in Moorhead, Minnesota, USA at the age of 113 years, 15 days. At the time of her death, she was the fourth-oldest known living person in the United States, after Elizabeth Francis, Naomi Whitehead, and Herlda Senhouse.
