Edna Kern (14 October 1900 – 20 January 2016) was an American supercentenarian whose age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Edna Kern was born to a family of Swiss ancestry in San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, USA on 14 October 1900. She was twice married; however she had no children on her own. By 2007 she had moved to Nevada, USA.

In October 2010, Kern celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.

Edna Kern died in Reno, Washoe County, Nevada, USA on 20 January 2016, at the age of 115 years, 98 days. At the time of her death, she was the last surviving and the oldest person in the USA born in 1900, the second-oldest living person in the USA behind Susannah Mushatt Jones (1899–2016), the longevity recordholder for the state of Nevada, one of only 25 people in the USA who reached the age of 115, and the fifth-oldest validated living person (behind Susannah Mushatt Jones, Emma Morano of Italy, Violet Brown of Jamaica, and Nabi Tajima of Japan).

Kern's age was verified by her family, as well as Oliver Trim and Waclaw Jan Kroczek, and (posthumously) validated by the GRG on 13 September 2023. The validation has been announced on the World Supercentenarian Forum.
