After six weeks of drama, it’s finally time to solve the mystery at the center of this nuanced, Monterey-set miniseries: Who died at the Otter Bay gala?

The murder victim was none other than Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgård), Celeste’s (Nicole Kidman) abusive husband and Jane’s (Shailene Woodley) rapist. For book readers, this probably didn’t come as much of a surprise, and to be fair, the same could probably be said of those who have been watching the miniseries from the beginning. My colleague Ariana Bacle, who, like me, has not read the books, guessed it was him, too.

The biggest surprise of the night, however, is reserved for the murderer: Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz), Nathan’s (James Tupper) second wife, killed Perry.

Here’s how it all went down: After discovering Celeste’s plans to leave him, Perry tries to force Celeste — who at this point was with Madeline, Jane, and Renata — to leave the gala with him, but she won’t and her friends stand by her. So Perry attacks all of them, and Bonnie, who was watching from above, runs down and pushes him down the stairs. It’s not entirely clear why chiller-than-thou Bonnie was driven to do something so extreme, apart from the fact that she’s a good Samaritan.

So, that’s how it all ended. How did you feel about the conclusion? Did you actually see it coming? Did you have someone else in mind? Do you have any lingering questions as to why Bonnie was the one who killed Perry?
