Walking Dead star Lauren Cohan has joined the cast of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in a small role, a source confirmed to EW.

Cohan, who is perhaps best known for her performance as Maggie Greene on AMC’s hit zombie series, is set to play Martha Wayne, the mother of Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne. In the DC comics, Martha is a socially conscious heiress married to Dr. Thomas Wayne. Their deaths at the hands of a Gotham criminal sets young Bruce Wayne on his path to becoming the masked vigilante Batman.

It’s unclear how heavily Batman’s origin story will feature in director Zack Snyder’s sequel to his 2013 Superman film Man of Steel, nor how closely it will follow the comics and previous depictions, including in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. But what is clear is that Affleck’s Batman is out for blood.

“He’s on the verge of being swallowed up by the anger and the rage that we see haunt this character in the other manifestations of it,” Affleck told EW last summer. “But this guy is further down the line and has become more embittered and cynical.”

In addition to Affleck and Henry Cavill, who reprises his Superman role, Dawn of Justice is set to introduce Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and possibly more members of DC’s superteam, The Justice League, paving the way for a forthcoming tentpole movie from DC Entertainment and Warner Bros.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is due in theaters March 25.
