The 2016 kidnapping disappearance of California housewife Sherri Papini gripped the nation while it was happening, and the case became a media sensation when it was revealed to have been a hoax perpetuated by Papini, who colluded with her then-boyfriend James Reyes during the three weeks that she vanished.

In the time since Papini’s kidnapping hoax was revealed, a Lifetime movie starring Jaime King titled Hoax: The Kidnapping of Sherri Papini, plus a Hulu docuseries, Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini, have come out, but neither involved Papini directly.

Today, Investigation Discovery has announced that Papini will be telling her side of the story in a yet-untitled docu-series that will air in 2025, per Variety.

An ID press release says the series will include “exclusive interviews with Papini about her disappearance and the subsequent media firestorm and federal investigation that followed.”

The series also promises “extensive interviews with those close to Papini and the investigation — offering new insights and potential answers to the questions that still swirl around this case nearly a decade later.”

The release quotes Jason Sarlanis, the President of ID, who explains, “Sherri Papini drew worldwide attention when she went missing and then again, when she returned. While many perspectives have been told, there is one point of view that the world hasn’t heard and that is from Sherri herself. Investigation Discovery will present a new side of Sherri Papini’s case – told by her in her own words.”

Papini was found guilty of orchestrating the kidnapping hoax in 2022 and served time in prison, getting released in August 2023.
