Whoopi Goldberg got real about her health during a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Goldberg ventured from her own talk show The View to join Clarkson’s program on Monday (May 13), where she said she’d lost the weight of “almost two people” since she started taking the weight loss drug Mounjaro.

As Goldberg sat down, Clarkson told her guest, “Every time I run into you, you look younger! You’re like Benjamin Button. It’s crazy every time you walk in.”

Goldberg replied, “First of all, it’s all the weight I’ve lost,” before referring to Mounjaro as a “wonderful shot” and saying the medication has been “really good” for her.

The actor and comedian told Clarkson she weighed 300 pounds at her heaviest, and recounted the moment an entertainment reporter mistakenly thought she had been wearing a fat suit in the 2022 drama Till.

“I made a movie and a woman thought I was wearing a fat suit … I was indignant! I was like, this is not a fat suit, this is me! And then I saw me … I thought well, yeah, it does look like I’m wearing a fat suit,” Goldberg said.

Clarkson shared that she, too, had been taking medication to lose weight. She did not name the drug, telling Goldberg, “everyone thinks it’s Ozempic but it’s not. It’s something else,” but noting that she went on medication because her blood work “got so bad.”

While admitting that she hadn’t been planning on discussing her weight loss on the show, Clarkson told Goldberg that she didn’t notice she had gained weight until she was watching back footage of herself.

“All of a sudden I paused it and I was like, ‘Who the fuck is that?’ I swear to God. It sounds insane,” Clarkson said, later adding that she thought she looked like she was “about to have a heart attack” and was “gonna die” at “any second.”

Goldberg could empathize, telling the talk show host, “We survived both of those things, thank god,” referring to her weight gain during Till and Clarkson’s own similar experience.

Reflecting on seeing herself and not recognizing the image onscreen, Clarkson said, “It’s a weird thing … I never saw that, I was never insecure about it, I was happy.”

The American Idol alum also said her doctor had been encouraging her to take medication for two years, but she was “afraid,” especially because of her existing thyroid issues. Clarkson said that at her heaviest, she reached 203 pounds, noting that she’s 5’3.

Clarkson closed out the chat about weight loss by telling Goldberg, “you look wonderful and I’m glad you feel wonderful,” a message Goldberg shared right back.
