grossly outdated

[edit]

This map exhibits several problems:

  • it is outdated: census data of 2011 is available
  • Solander and Nones are colored blue like Ladin, while it is disputed whether those dialecs could be considered ladin dialects at all
  • Mocheno and Cimbrian use different colors, while it is well-known, that both dialects are German/Bavarian and very similar
  • in the Sole valley hardly anyone declared "Ladin" at the Census (less than 10%), so it shouldn't be colored at all
  • some communes in south-east are colored yellow, while there's no noteworthy number of native Cimbrian speakers
  • there are striped areas around Fassa and Mocheno valley, which aren't backed up by any source

As a new map already exists (File:Language_distribution_Trentino_2011.png), I suggest to cancel this one.--Sajoch (talk) 17:48, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We should keep the map. It is not outdated. Minorities in Trentino are protected according the territorial principle, not to the personal one (this applies to South Tyrol). Gryffindor's map shows the protected, officially recognized area (full color) and distinguishes it from the areas where people declare to be Ladin but this has no practical effects (stripes). As the Ladin, Mocheno, and Cimbrian area did not change at all, this map is still valid. And it is better and more informative than this map File:Language_distribution_Trentino_2011.png, which is not correct, as it mixes Cimbrian and Mocheno with German.
Moreover: Cimbrian and Mocheno are very much different from standard German and also from modern Bavarian. They are German languages in an archaic sense, actually they are different languages.--Patavium (talk) 21:22, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"Minorities in Trentino are protected..." you say, but that's not what the map is about. I already listed the problems with the older map, which still apply. You failed to disprove any of my criticisms.--Sajoch (talk) 09:24, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
