Notes |
English: Both the present location (see source) that the catalogs of the exposure of this work recall that the name of the subject is uncertain. The Count Antoine Apponyi (1782-1852) is the uncle of the Count Rudolph Apponyi (1802-1853). Countess Ligne is cited by Ducamp: "The Austrian ambassador, Count [Antoine] Apponyi, is the dean of the diplomatic corps; it's a big man, a very beautiful face ... "Ducamp 2012.. The subject represented is young and thin. This argues for making Rudolph Apponyi known by Ingres. Cf. Emmanuel Ducamp (2012) Flammarion , ed.
