Please delete this redirect. (not the file) I requested deletion before, but these requests somehow went unanswered. See also Commons:Village pump/Archive/2020/03#Unofficial logos.

According to [1] the redirect is used on a user page on enwiki (this is incorrect, it's not used there, bug maybe), one user page on ruwiki (they don't allow other users or CommonsDelinker to replace it, I left a message on their talk page). It was also re-added to zhwiki through the use of undo [2] but I have updated the filename there so it no longer uses this redirect.

The reason why this redirect should be deleted is the same as the reason for moving the file: to avoid misleading (re-)users. This is an unofficial logo variant.

  • Confused:
  1. It is a useful redirection. This file is not only used in several user pages, but also in templates, and as a link (example), in numerous pages. Deleting this file will just create mess, like unnecessary red links. Now the path is explicit, please keep it as it is.
  2. The fact that this is an "unofficial variant" is not a reason to delete it. We may need this derivative work specifically. Proof with the target, currently used by thousands of users. The description clearly says "This version is made for use in English Wikipedia's WikiProjects and userboxes to represent Windows in general".
  3. We host Unofficial Olympic logos, Unofficial Apple logos, Unofficial Facebook logos, Parodies of logos, etc. If this file is an "unofficial Windows logo", then it is just sorted in the ✓[OK] right category. And can be used as such.
  4. For who has a doubt that Microsoft used this logo in the past, here is a reminder. Then yes, it is actually an official logo. To be exact, the true colors are here: microsoft.com, but these are extremely similar. And the basic appearance is faithful in my opinion. See Category:Mona Lisa for an overview of the many variations of colors we can host here for a single painting. One thing is sure, the purpose of the original upload (target of this redirection) was to represent Windows. These userboxes are useful. Thus I disagree deleting this link will "avoid misleading (re-)users". On the contrary, those who put these userboxes on their userpages certainly do it on purpose.
  5. Template {{Trademarked}} is here, since the beginning. "If you want to use it, you have to ensure that you have the legal right". Doesn't mean "never use this file, alert it's a fake!" -- Basile Morin (talk) 06:24, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • ⚠️ the target is labeled {{PD-textlogo}}. This is a very common practice for professional designers to create monochrome and plain color alternative versions, when elaborating a logo, to adapt to the very numerous techniques of color printing (like serigraphy for example, where gradients are rarely allowed), in anticipation of need of the main company. Thus it is absolutely obvious that Microsoft has an official "plain color version" of this kind in their technical archives -- Basile Morin (talk) 09:28, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • First of all, Commons:Canvassing is just an essay on Commons. Secondly, what I did was correct. I did not "grant" any "demand"s. As a tech-savvy user, I have enough "expertise" to be called into such discussions, just as many users ping me about discussions related to the Persian language (my another area of expertise)[4]. I just participated in some DRs as an independent user when they were brought to my attention. I could have voted {{Keep}} if your rationale was strong enough (which was not). The status of Alexis Jazz is irrelevant here. You cannot deny me of my right to participate in this DR. 4nn1l2 (talk) 07:21, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: No support for the nominator's argument that the redirect should be deleted. The actual file can be nominated if desired. --King of ♥ 06:56, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
