this map is based on outdated data and contains several errors - see discussion Sajoch (talk) 08:12, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We should keep the map. It is not outdated, it contains no errors. Minorities in Trentino are protected according the territorial principle, not to the personal one (this applies to South Tyrol). Gryffindor's map shows the protected, officially recognized area (full color) and distinguishes it from the areas where people declare to be Ladin but this has no practical effects (stripes). As the Ladin, Mocheno, and Cimbrian area did not change at all, this map is still valid. And it is better and more informative than this map File:Language_distribution_Trentino_2011.png, which is not correct, as it mixes Cimbrian and Mocheno with German.--Patavium (talk) 21:25, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This map exhibits several problems:

  • it is outdated: census data of 2011 is available
  • Solander and Nones are colored blue like Ladin, while it is disputed whether those dialecs could be considered ladin dialects at all
  • Mocheno and Cimbrian use different colors, while it is well-known, that both are dialects of the German language
  • in the Sole valley hardly anyone declared "Ladin" at the Census (less than 2%), so it shouldn't be colored at all
  • some communes in south-east are colored yellow, while there's no noteworthy number of native Cimbrian speakers
  • there are striped areas around Fassa and Mocheno valley, which aren't backed up by any source

As a new map already exists (File:Language_distribution_Trentino_2011.png), this one should be deleted.--Sajoch (talk) 21:41, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The new maps created by Sajoch are wrong. Cimbrian and Mocheno are different languages, German is quite distant from them. They have different ortography, different pronounciation, different teaching at school, different media etc.
This map is perfect as long as Nones territory is not officially recognized. When this happens, we will change from stripes to full colour.
It is Sajochs map that is not backed by any source.--Patavium (talk) 21:50, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is a specific request to delete a single map. Please don't deviate to other images (which are correct btw).--Sajoch (talk) 22:19, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This map is correct and cannot be substituted with your wrong maps.--Patavium (talk) 22:47, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If User:Sajoch says the map is wrong, then I am fine with that, it can be deleted and replaced with his maps. Gryffindor (talk) 12:20, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: Policy requires that Commons Admins do not make decisions on which historical maps to keep. We leave that to WP editors. .     Jim . . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 22:16, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
