Heist to See You: Stolen Vermeer Resurfaces on ‘The Simpsons’

The Federal Bureau of Investigation isn’t the only group that’s still focused on the 1990 heist at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. The crime, in which more than $500 million worth of art was taken from the museum, got a shout-out Sunday on “The Simpsons” when Vermeer‘s “Concert” — one of the works stolen in the unsolved crime — turned up in the collection of the plutocrat C. Montgomery Burns. (How he got his hands on the plundered painting remains a matter between Mr. Burns and the F.B.I.)

While ArtsBeat approves of Mr. Burns’s taste in Dutch masters, it does not share his opinion on the role of public museums in daily life.
