Ted Cruz compares Donald Trump to Back to the Future villain Biff

Ted Cruz has pulled out another movie reference, this time to criticize his Republican presidential primary opponent, Donald Trump.

During a meeting with press ahead of Tuesday’s Indiana primary, Cruz compared Trump to Michael J. Fox’s nemesis in the Back to the Future films.

“If anyone has seen the movie Back to the Future 2, the screenwriter [Bob Gale] says that he based the character Biff Tannen on Donald Trump: a caricature of a braggadocios arrogant buffoon who builds giant casinos with giant pictures of him everywhere he looks,” Cruz said. “We are looking, potentially, at the Biff Tannen presidency. I don’t think the people of America want that. I don’t think we deserve that. I don’t think Hoosiers want that.”

Gale did, in fact, reveal that he based Biff on Trump when he penned the script for the 1989 sequel.

“We thought about it when we made the movie! Are you kidding?” Gale said in October. “You watch Part II again and there’s a scene where Marty confronts Biff in his office, and there’s a huge portrait of Biff on the wall behind Biff, and there’s one moment where Biff kind of stands up and he takes exactly the same pose as the portrait? Yeah.”

In response to Cruz — who also called his opponent a “pathological liar” — Trump said in a statement, “I have watched Lyin’ Ted become more and more unhinged as he is unable to react under the pressure of losing,” per ABC News. He also asserted that Cruz “does not have the temperament to be president of the United States.”
