Janet Jackson's Unbreakable hits No. 1

Janet Jackson’s Unbreakable debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart Sunday, making it her seventh album to top the charts. According to Billboard, she’s the third artist to hit No. 1 across the last four decades, alongside Barbra Streisand and Bruce Springsteen.

This album is the first Jackson released on her own independent label, Rhythm Nation, and it debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Independent Album charts as well. According to Nielsen Music reports, it sold 116,000 units.

She ousted Fetty Wap’s debut album, which premiered at the No. 1 spot last week. The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind The Madness now sits at No. 2, Drake and Future’s mixtape What A Time To Be Alive landed at No. 3, and Fetty Wap dropped to No. 4.

Unbreakable was Jackson’s first album since 2008’s Disciplines, and featured songs “No Sleeep” (with J. Cole), “Unbreakable,” and “Burnitup!” (with Missy Elliott). Jackson debuted the duet with Elliott while on the Unbreakable tour, which began in August in Vancouver.

Jackson worked with longtime collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and earlier this year, they spoke to EW about the album’s production. “It’s such a broad concept,” Lewis said of Unbreakable. “You can think of it many different ways. Some people think of unbreakable as being hard, but I think unbreakable is just being able to be vulnerable and to be able to withstand what comes to you. She’s lived a lot of life in the last few years.”
