Once in a generation the British people get sick to the back teeth with the Tories, and look hopefully at Labour. In 1945 the electorate gave the Conservative Party and Winston Churchill a gigantic raspberry and Labour won a huge majority of 145 seats. In 1997 the Tories received another bashing from voters, despite the economy being in good health. Tony Blair's Labour Party got a stonking majority of 179 seats. Today, the Conservative Party is likely to suffer a rout. But I believe with something approaching certainty that the most successful political party in history will be back, possibly in five years.
