Wet Hot American Summer lives to see another summer. The 2001 cult comedy, starring then-future megastars Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Bradley Cooper and Elizabeth Banks, was revived last summer by Netflix for an eight-episode prequel, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. After the success of that series, the streaming service announced Tuesday that creators David Wain and Michael Showalter would return for another series based on the film, this one taking place a decade after the movie.
Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later gets its premise from the final scene of the movie, in which the counselors of Camp Firewood talk about reuniting when they’re older. They spar about what time they’ll meet, arguing over whether their adult selves will be mature enough to show up on time, ultimately agreeing to “make it [their] beeswax to be here by 9:30.”
Though a cast for the new series has not yet been announced, many of the film’s stars, including Poehler, have expressed interest in coming back for more. In addition to the film’s original stars, First Day of Camp introduced several newcomers, including Kristen Wiig, Jon Hamm and John Slattery.
A date has yet to be set for 10 Years Later, but Entertainment Weekly reports that sometime next summer is likely. Let’s hope the crew meets in the morning, so they can make a day of it.
