At East Hampton’s Guild Hall on Friday, Mercedes Ruehl performed with Richard Kind in a staged reading of “Assisted Loving: True Tales of Double Dating With my Dad” by Times writer Bob Morris.
Ruehl, who lives in East Hampton and has an Oscar and a Tony, joined at the last minute because Tovah Feldshuh had to pull out due to a filming commitment in Toronto playing the US president in the CBS series “Salvation.”Her POTUS character has a crisis on her hands — a killer meteor heading for Earth. Morris’ reading followed one called “Gross Points” in which Alec Baldwin played an egomaniacal star. Life imitates art.
