Lightbringer is the sword said to have been carried by Azor Ahai, the hero of the first war with the Others.

The sword is said to have been forged by Azor Ahai himself, in three seperate attempts. The first attempt, he labored for thirty days and thirty nights in the sacred of fires of a temple and to temper it he plunged it into water, it then burst into flames and nothing was left. The second time, he labored fifty days and fifty nights, captured a lion and plunged the sword into its heart. The steel once again shattered. The third attempt, he labored a hundred days and as many nights, and when the time came to temper it, he asked his wife, Nissa Nissa, to bare her breast. She did as he bid and he plunged the blade into her heart. It is said that all of her strength became part of the sword.

Swords thought to be Lightbringer[]

Stannis Baratheon has been proclaimed Azor Ahai returned by Melisandre, a priestess of R'hllor, and his sword to be Lightbringer. Another red priest, Moqorro, believes that Victarion Greyjoy is Azor Ahai, which would make his sword Lightbringer.[1]

Notes and References[]

  1. Some readers also believe Longclaw to be Lightbringer, because of Melisandre's interest in Jon Snow and due to the fact that it is a dragonsteel blade and he also killed his "wife", Ygritte.

(He (Jon Snow) didn't kill Ygritte)
